new police commissioner for hampshire - Updated 8th May 2016

Farringdon Polling Station

The result you have all been waiting for, or possiblty not, if the turnout of Farringdon Voters is anything to go by, turnout figures across Hampshire averaged 29%, although some areas were also electing Local and District Councils.

Unless there was a late rush after your reporter visited the Farringdon Polling Station only 20% of voters could be bothered to exercise their franchise, despite the Polling Station being located in the Function Room of the Golden Pheasant, thereby providing an opportunity for a pint after voting, or before, or possibly both.

For those of you who might be interested, despite an extensive, and probably expensive, billboard campaign by the sitting Police Commisioner, Simon Hayes, he failed to make the second ballot and the few voters that turned out elected the Conservative Candidate, Michael Lane although why a police commisioner should be aligned with any political party is a mystery to me. The results are shown below.

In case you are wondering why tthere was a second choice on the ballot paper, if, as happened in this case, no candidate achieved 50% of the votes in the first round, the two top scorers second ballot results are added to decide the outcome.

In case you are wondering what the new Polce Commisioner looks like, the image on the left was published on the BBC website.
Publishing this image here is probably a hanging offence but since the Beeb have, albeit inadvertently, used some 'Biz' images in the past I am prepared to take the risk!
