SUCCESS FOR FARRINGDON WI. . . Updated 13 March 2009
Farringdon W.I. was celebrating after winning the annual competition at the evening spring meeting of the Austen Group. The competition this year was to prepare afternoon tea for two - the theme being Easter. Farringdon is the smallest institute in the group of five, so its resounding score of 99 out of 100 was very rewarding for the sub-committee of ladies who had worked so hard to decorate the table and cook the delicacies. Special mention should be made of Valerie Davies without whose enthusiasm and tireless dedication success would not have been ours.
The spring meeting was hosted by Chawton W.I. in their Village Hall. One of the highlights of the evening was an enthralling presentation by Mr Robin Maddy, a magician from the Magic Circle. He spoke on the history of magic and illustrated his talk with colour slides and demonstrations of magic. A further highlight was the magnificent spread prepared by the Chawton ladies..
At the afternoon monthly meeting on the 11th March at East Tisted Village Hall, Mr Vince entertained us with a "Sing-along" - songs from popular shows.
A "Photograph of Nature" was the competition of the afternoon and was won by Ann Ainsworth with a picture of a fox. Marie Crawford was second with Mr & Mrs Pheasant and third place was awarded to Valerie Davies with a view of Tintagel.
The flower of the month was a Camellia grown by Audrey Willis.
Our next meeting will be on 8th April at 2.00 pm in East Tisted Village Hall. Do come along and join us to hear Mrs Daniels speak about the River Meon.
