THE FARRINGDON CHRISTMAS DINNER- Updated 9th December 2009

A team of volunteers swung into action early on Monday morning to set up the tables and decorate the Hall for the Farringdon Christmas Dinner in the evening.

With an unusually short time to prepare for the event, the pressure was on but the by the time you reporter arrived in the evening, everything was prepared and the guests were arriving and settling in their places

In the kitchen the Andrews family took charge of the catering with a willing band of volunteers on hand to ensure the evening went off without a hitch.

With the Sherry in full flow the guests were arriving in force, whether Ian was the last to receive a glass or has managed to obtain a second I have no idea but after the long trek to the Hall from his place of residence he is probably entitled to a little extra refreshment.

This picture was taken before you reporter was spotted hence the happy smiling face, although they may have been influenced by the extremely efficient

Just smile then he'll go away

. . . . .wine service team who were extremely adept at topping up any glasses approaching half empty

Back in the kitchen another happy smile, well three to be precise, from the self styled "Rubber Glove Brigade" who were setting about the washing up as the meal progressed

At the ready

At this point your reporter, who is well qualified by age but lives just beyond the Parish Boundary, was invited to join the diners for an excellent meal, I needed no second invitation offer my sincere congratulations to the chefs and everybody involved on the night.

This by the way is a Christmas tree which might look familiar to those who passed through the foyer of the Folly Theatre the previous week.

Obviously the Raffle was much appreciated, especially by Chrys and Keith who were among the prize winners

With the mince pies dispensed the big clear up began in the Kitchen with a host of worthy volunteers setting about the task under the watchful eye of Lyn Andrews.

..

.While in the Hall, William Godfree brought the house down with his musical tales of Joyce the Librarian and Mrs Beamish, the stalwart of St Botolphs Church congregation.(Apologies for the quality of this picture, for some inexplicable reason the camera didn't seem to work so well after a splendid meal and the odd glass or three of wine)

A Christmas Dinner would not be complete without a selection of Carols by candlelight to round off the evening . . .

. . . . .followed by the traditional Auld Lang Syne and a spirited rendering of the National Anthem before the assembled throng made their way home after a very enjoyable evening.

(personal thanks to all those who helped out made me so welcome and for an excellent evening of good food, good company and excellent entertainment)
