WISTERIA WEEK - updated May 21st 2006

Despite the rather dismal weather over the weekend 2006 seems to be a vintage year for wisteria, with some magnificent displays around the Village. With a break in the showers on Saturday afternoon the Biz digital was pointed at few of the choice specimens..

Tim's best yet?

First stop was at The Croft, all too often a victim of late frosts, this year it has excelled with a brilliant display of blooms.
If this is a taste of things to come, the Open Gardens Weekend on July 1st - 2nd promises to be one of the most spectacular ever.

A Hall Farm beautyNext stop was Hall Farm, (thanks to Hoppa for allowing me access for this picture) not visible from the road but another explosion of blooms along the south wall.

A graceful arch

Although not on the scale of the previous offerings, Tylers wisteria is no less attractive and trails over the front gate, set against the white lilac behind.

The secret garden?

The entrance to a secret garden? not quite but this clematis over the garden gate at Churchers seems to indicate that, for all the climbers, 2006 is a vintage year.

Architectural addition

The appropriately named Tangley wisteria is also a beauty with the added bonus of a few tips on pruning my own, bloom laden but rather leafy specimen from the owner.

The Holly Cottage white

Just to prove that everything wisteria is not blue a white variety has adorned Holly Cottage for many years and is now returned to its former glory.

A scented doorway

Perhaps the most spectacular display adorns the wall of Priors Barn, (right and below) with an exuberant display of flowers running along the whole length of the house front. Worthy of two pictures this one, although the neighbours must be wondering how far this specimen is going to go.

Wisteria panorama?

Who called me "Mint Sauce"

On the way back I took the opportunity to capture another sign of spring in the shape of these young lambs cavorting about in the field adjacent to my own humble, wisteria clad residence

What's he doing
