FARRINGDON HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY SUMMER SHOW - Updated 19th July 2009
![]() |
Another year, another Summer Show, once again the spirit of competition overtakes the horticulturists of Farringdon as they bring their carefully nurtured entries into the Village Hall for the 2009 event |
| Held a week or two earlier than usual, the event was well supported although a combination of timing and weather meant overall entries were down a little on previous years. | ![]() |

The quality of entries was not affected and there was a fair selection of garden produce on display in the vegetable classes . |
|
Courgettes have obviously thrived this year, with a fair selection of entries and there will be no potato famine in Farringdon going by the number of competitors who had dug out, washed, polished and selected their finest tubers for the class.
If size matters there would have been a clear winner in the bean class but I am reliably informed by those versed in the mysteries of horticultural competition that the quality of the entry has a major influence on the judges decision.

| The Homecraft section was, as always, a feast for the eye with a mouth watering display of cakes scones and preserves from the kitchens of Farringdon | ![]() |

On the other side of the table the Handicraft section included a variety of entries in the various classes from photographs to woolly animals not to mention the Pork Pie. |
| Shaun the Sheep seems to be distracted by the activities in the children's section where the Farringdon Not Very Strictly Come Dancing event appears to be under way | ![]() |

There appears to be a shortage of female partners, although first appearances may deceive here as the facing partner could well be a left over from the Farringdon Pantomime Auditions a couple of weeks ago.
|
| Despite the uncanny resemblance to at least one cast member of the Farringdon Pantomime, this is the winning entry in the Children's Class for a "Scarecrow on a Broomstick" seen here in the company of the winning constructors, the Taylor brothers. |

The afternoon brought out both competitors and spectators to see how their exhibits had fared under the combined scrutiny of the Judges and discuss the merits of both exhibits and of course, the exhibitors |
|
Due to a prior engagement, you reporter was unable to make it back in time for the presentations (thanks to the Williams wire service the full results are available here) so clearing up was well underway and the exhibits were being taken home by the time the 'Biz' digital was in operation. The Village Hall was soon cleared and everybody made their way home after a successful day
