THE SUMMER? SHOW 2007- Part 2- Updated 11th August 2007

After a prolonged lunch, your reporter returned to the Hall to find the competitors searching the tables to see how their exhibits had fared , some becoming more intimately involved in the exhibits than others.

Anna Cameron, (on the left of the picture) winner of Novices Section A and Sue Fifield, who took second place in the Floral Art section were deep in conversation among the flowers.

The Childrens Miniature Desert Garden class was an all Schryver affair with Sophie and Lucy taking 1st and 2nd places in the class.

It was soon time for the Prize Giving Ceremony and with Phyll Watts in command first up were the Childrens Classes.

Katie Boylan, ( pictured right ) took top honours, taking home the Childrens' Challenge Cup and the Certificate for Best Exhibit for her Vegetable Person ( below)

The Homecraft Cup went to Sue Ovell (left) with Catherine Cameron picking up the certificate for the best Exhibit with her Strawberry Jam.

Here I have to apologise the Sheila Pawson, who picked up the Shield and Best Exhibit award in the Handicraft Section; due to the usual incompetence your photographers attempt to record this presentation managed to capture a blurred close-up of the camera strap with an equally blurred figure in the background which only those who know Sheila well would ever recognise.

More successful was the image of Karen Vine(left), this years winner of The Floral Art Challenge

The Hartley children picked up an array of First places in the individual classes and are pictured selecting their prizes with the assistance of their Mother and Phyll Watts.

Mutuial Appreciation

After this I must confess to becoming a little confused.

Im sure Brian Williams presented Phyll Watts with the Challenge Cup for the Overall Award for overall top score in the Vegetable and Flowers sections and the Farringdon Cup for the Highest points Scored by a Farringdon Resident.

Just who took top honours in the each section I'm not absolutely certain as it was difficult to keep pace with the mutual presentations.

Phyll Watts may have won the Flower Section and Brian Williams the Vegetable section or it could have been Brian Watts and Phyll Williams or even What Brian and Will Phyll ( fortunately the Show secretary did know who won what and the official results can be found on an adjoining page - link below) Whoever eventually won what there was much applause and I have more pictures of Phyan and Brill than I know what to do with. (Please address any suggestions to the Horticultural Society)

After this it was time to draw the raffle. There were one or two worthy prize winners but, as is always the way, some undesirables sneak in from beyond the parish boundary and pick up a prime offering.

Thanks ( I'm not sure thanks is the appropriate word to use in these circumstances) to David Hartley, the low point of this years show was recorded for posterity on the Biz digital and I can only apologise for including it here. Are we getting to the stage when we need to import Village Idiots? Are there not more suitable candidates within the Farringdon Parish boundary?

Order was finally restored with a vote of thanks for the organisers from Ian Dussek.

Thanks to Carole Williams for the accurate list of prizewinners
