THE SUMMER? SHOW 2007 - Updated 11th August 2007
Any
event held this year which includes the word "Summer" in the title
is stretching the limits of credibility but, despite the appalling weather in
the weeks leading up to the show, the gardeners of Farringdon conjured up a
magnificent display of Horticultural excellence in the Manor Barn with not a
drop of rain in sight.

Your reporter arrived
as Geoff Hawkins, Judging the Horticultural Classes, was taking a careful look
at vegetable exhibits and make the all important awards and placings, with the
Official Farringdon Horticultural Society Stewards in close attendance.

At the other end
of the barn Priscilla Wedderburn-Maxwell was equally meticulous in her assessment
of the Homecraft entries, with the selfless assistance of the Show Secretary,
Carole Williams.

Further down the
table The Gingerbread Men, Women and Persons of indeterminate sex, appeared
to be enjoying the experience, including the one member of the team who appears
to have sacrificed one or two vital parts to the Judging process.

Handicraft entries
were under the close scrutiny of Judge Serena Bone with Elizabeth Williams performing
the Stewarding duties in this section.
While I can't pretend to be an expert on such things there were some interesting and meticulously executed flower arrangements on the "Green" theme
.

With judging under way your reporter slipped home for some nourishment before returning when the show opened for the all important awards ceremony in the afternoon
