GOSPORT ROAD PLANNING REFUSED ON APPEAL. . . Updated 18th July 2011
Statement from the Parish Council
An appeal hearing was conducted in Alton by a Government Inspector on October13th to consider the application by Bargate Homes to build 13 properties on part of the “Marelands” site in Lower Farringdon.
The appeal was dismissed after hearing the evidence supplied by the Parish Council who were strongly supported by a significant number of villagers.
The inspector dismissed the appeal for the following main reasons:-
- lack of robust evidence for the number of local affordable houses needed and a lack of community involvement in calculating the need
- unsustainable location and social isolation
- alternative sites within the settlement not properly assessed
- poor quality of design
- proposed mix of housing did not match the registered housing needs
- adverse impact on the street scene by loss of hedge on frontage
Over the coming months the Parish Council is updating its Parish Plan ( “Farringdon Vision 2030”) and will be earnestly seeking the views of all sections of the community to determine our village requirements in the next decade and also to establish what we seek to preserve. A very important part of this plan will be an obligation to provide an adequate number of affordable houses for those people who have strong links to the village either through families or through their work in the community.
