Hampshire & i.o.w. police commissioner ELECTION results - Updated November 16th 2012
Listed below are the county totals of votes cast. Due to the eccentric alternative vote system used for this election, only the top two from the first round are able to include second preferences.
As you can see from the results below, this reverses the result from the first round total which only includes votes cast in the first column of the voting paper. (I hope you are following this and that the excitement isn't too much for you!)
Just to give some indication of the apathy with which this election was greeted by the Hampshire electorate:-
On first preference, the winning candidate achieved less than 4% of the available votes and even if you massage the figures by including second preference votes, just under 5.6% of the total electorate voted for the winner.
So far your reporter has not been able to obtain figures for the turnout in Farringdon.(Results below listed in order of number of votes cast.)
Turnout: 211,886 (14.6% of eligible voters in Hampshire) Turnout does not include spoiled papers Second Round Total with ( % of total votes cast ) Simon Hayes (Ind) 80,669 - (55.1%) Elected Michael Mates (Con) 65,804 - (44.9%) First Round 1st Pref 2nd Pref Michael Mates (Con) 52,616 (24.8%) 13,188 Simon Hayes (Ind) 47,632 (22.5%) 33,037 Jacqui Rayment (Lab) 38,813 (18.3%) David Goodall (Lib-Dem) 27,197 (12.8%) Don Jerrard

In October this year the Lord Nelson, a square rigged tall ship operated by the Jubilee Sailing Trust will set off from Southampton to sail around the World.
The entire trip is divided into 13 legs each of which will be crewed by a mixed crew of able-bodied and disabled people.
Every crew member with a physical disability will have a ‘buddy’ who is around at all times to offer him or her help, support and encouragement throughout their part of the voyage. In late April 2013, David Horton will be paying all his own expenses when he joins the crew of Lord Nelson as a 'buddy' on the 3rd leg of her round-the-world trip.
David is still looking for a suitable person who is disabled and would like to enter their name for this competition. He has now raised just over £4850 so it will be a completely free holiday away for 28 days and sailing from India via Sri Lanka, Thailand and Malaysia, finishing up in Singapore. SALT / GRIT BINS :
These distinctive yellow or blue salt/grit bins have been provided by Farringdon Parish Council and the contents by Hampshire County Council entirely to improve the safety of vehicles (and their occupants) using public roads. They are deliberately sited at three intersections not usually covered by EHDC gritting lorries and where there is an increased risk from snow and ice. Contractors were topping up the bin down by the A32 cross-roads on Sunday morning (19th Dec)
The contents are NOT FOR USE ON PRIVATE PROPERTIES and anyone seen removing the salt/grit contents for their own use may be prosecuted for theft.
Granulated salt for use on private premises is widely available from local builder's merchants and hardware stores. - Farringdon Parish Council
