THE PRESTIGIOUS 2007 FARRINGDON GOLF TOURNAMENT pt II- Updated April 14th 2006
Following
the exertions of the day around Alresford Golf course and the emotionally
exhausting nineteenth hole, The Farringdon Championship contenders, accompanied
by their partners, made their way to the Rose and Crown for the celebratory
candlelit dinner.( Note the artistic soft focus and use of ambient light)
Tiger Burton
was MC for the evening and was greeted in the traditional manner as he rose
to award the prizewinners on the day. As well as the individual Stapleford
competition for the Farringdon Championship each threesome compete for the
team prize on the day in a Texas Scramble. (Don't ask, for years I've
followed this competition and I haven't even caught wind of an American
on the course, let alone one from Texas) .
Teams play off an average handicap calculated by adding the total handicaps
of the team and dividing by three ( The handicap is another of those
golfing mysteries and nothing to do with any shortcomings either physical
or mental exhibited by an individual competitor )
Champion on the
Day was Jim Gilchrist (right) seen her receiving the Farringdon Trophy
and the wrong prize from the MC, the presentation was immediately followed
by a short and confused version of pass the parcel to remedy the situation.
In second place was Phil Ashley and third place was taken by Baron Fuller.
Next up was the
the team prize for the Texas Scramble which for some unfathomable reason,
the MC was somewhat reluctant to present as the team included Baron Fuller.
( Note the smug grin)
Eventually Tiger Burton overcame his scruples and prizes were presented
to the winning threesome of Tony Causton, Lord Maltby and the Baron.
Celebration continued into the night long after the departure of your reporter.
