THE PRE - CHRISTMAS CRUNCH . . . Updated 4th January 2010

Nothing to do with the credit squeeze although the impact drew an audience to the top of Crows Lane to enjoy the unscheduled arrival of an idiot in Farringdon.

The 'Biz' would like to make clear the idiot referred to above is not one of the regular, mostly harmless, idiots who can be found wending their way around the village. This idiot was was one of the complete and utter versions that was occupying the driving seat of a pick up that was proceeding along the Street in the week before Christmas

So why did this draw an interested audience?

Thanks to Kate Buer's photographic skills we have pictures to illustrate the answer.

The picture says it all, as Mr Dopey Twollop hurtled up the Street,( this is probably not his real name but it does seem appropriate in the circumstances ) he failed to take account of two crucially important details,

1:- Snow was falling on an already icy road surface

2:- There was a junction ahead at which proceeding straight ahead was not one of the options available

Fortunately there was nobody in the way when Dopey took the unavailable option and, after a prolonged period of meditation, discovered that it is impossible to drive straight through a parked vehicle and continue to make forward progress.

While there was no person in the way the Nicky's parked Honda suffered somewhat in the impact and has been taken away for emergency surgery. We all hope that it will make a full recovery after some intensive treatment and a period of recuperation.

As for Mr Twollop, he decided (if the preceding events are anything to go by the decision process may have taken some time) that the best option in the circumstances was to leg it back the way he had come on foot, or possibly feet, although he must have had some concerns when one of the more lithe and athletic members of the Hampshire Constabulary took up the chase. Had the pursuer been wearing the costume he occupied in the recent Farringdon Pantomime, Mr Twollop may have had even more cause for concern.

Despite this demonstration of athletic prowess the pursuer failed to make ground and Mr Twollop was not apprehended at the scene but investigations are in hand and we can only hope that the idiot is apprehended in the near future.

None of the images of the miscreant are available here but after microscopic investigation of the image on the right, the 'Biz' image handling department observed a suspicious looking customer attempting to climb onto the roof of the Drift.

It couldn't be . . . . could it?
Thanks to Kate for the pictures on this page and the dogged determination of Mrs Jarman to forward them to the 'Biz' office via e-mail
